Three
titles have been dropped from the original Guardian Longlist
- Keith
Gray, Marcus Sedgwick and Jean Ure were the disappointed authors.
This
now leaves a shortlist of only four, all of whom will be anxiously
awaiting the winners
announcement on October 4th.

This
year's judges are: children's laureate Michael Morpurgo, Philip Ardagh,
creator of the bestselling Eddie Dickens trilogy, and Malorie Blackman,
author of Pig-Heart Boy.
The panel is chaired by Julia Eccleshare, Guardian children's books
editor. |

Julia
Eccleshare, the Guardian children's books editor and chair of the
panel of judges, said of the longlist; "...the inclusion of
these new voices marks a step forward, as it challenges children
to examine the prejudices of society and offers them an ever-widening
understanding of the varied world in which they find themselves."
