The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize Shortlist. 8th September 2003.

Three titles have been dropped from the original Guardian Longlist - Keith Gray, Marcus Sedgwick and Jean Ure were the disappointed authors.

This now leaves a shortlist of only four, all of whom will be anxiously awaiting the winners announcement on October 4th.

The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize Longlist

This year's judges are: children's laureate Michael Morpurgo, Philip Ardagh, creator of the bestselling Eddie Dickens trilogy, and Malorie Blackman, author of Pig-Heart Boy.
The panel is chaired by Julia Eccleshare, Guardian children's books editor.

Julia Eccleshare, the Guardian children's books editor and chair of the panel of judges, said of the longlist; "...the inclusion of these new voices marks a step forward, as it challenges children to examine the prejudices of society and offers them an ever-widening understanding of the varied world in which they find themselves."
