The 2003 Whitbread Children's Book of the Year has been won by David Almond's
The Fire-Eaters. No stranger to the award this is the second time David has scooped the Whitbread; his first novel for children, Skellig also won the Whitbread Children's Book of theYear in 1998 - not to mention a Carnegie Medal too!

Good news also for Mark Haddon whose book The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time managed to scoop the Whitbread 2003 Novel of the Year and go on to also win the 2003 Whitbread Book of the Year. The book has been embraced by both children and adults and continues to win awards in both adult and children's categories.
