The 2003 Whitbread Children's Book of the Year has been won by David
Almond's
The
Fire-Eaters. No stranger to the award this is the second time
David has scooped the Whitbread; his first novel for children, Skellig
also won the Whitbread Children's Book of theYear in 1998 - not
to mention a Carnegie Medal too!
Good news also for Mark Haddon whose book The Curious Incident
of the Dog in the Night-Time managed to scoop the Whitbread
2003 Novel of the Year and go on to also win the 2003 Whitbread
Book of the Year. The book has been embraced by both children and
adults and continues to win awards in both adult and children's
categories.
