The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize Longlist. 30th July 2004.

Four novels have made the shortlist for this year's prize. Judges Mark Haddon (last years winner), Marcus Sedgewick and Adele Geras have made their selection. Past winners such as Ted Hughes, Anne Fine, Philip Pullman and Jacqueline Wilson, all have been selected by their peers in the past to win the; The winner of this year's award will be announced on October 9th.

The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize Longlist

A tradition of finding new voices in children's fiction before the rest of the world is aware of them has distinguished the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize since 1967 and this year is no difference. Chair of judges, Julia Eccleshare highlighted how "The submissions for this years prize reflect an enthusiasm for writing them" and "triumphantly show the scope and quality of writing for children".
