Winner of The Marsh Award Announced 21st January 2005


Awarded to the best translation of a children’s book, by a British translator, from a foreign language into English, and published in the UK by a British publisher, this award is presented every two years. This year the award has been presented to Sarah Adams for her translation of Daniel Pennac's Eye of the Wolf


Pennac is one of the most widely translated and read French authors but he has only recently been available in English for the UK market.

The judging panel for this years award included: former winners Patricia Crampton and Anthea Bell. Wendy Cooloing, Educational Consultant, author and critic and Elizabeth Hammill, Artistic Director of Seven Stories, The Centre for Children's Books and critic.

The award is administered by The National Centre for Research in Children's Literature at Roehampton University, sponsored by the Marsh Christian Trust and subsidised by The Arts Council of England.

  The winner was announced at a ceremony at the Arts Club on 20th January, 2005. Aidan Chambers, acclaimed author and president of the Schools Library Association presented the award and a prize of £1000 to the translator, Sarah Adams.
