| Geraldine
McCaughrean has been chosen to write the official sequel to the
story of Peter Pan after Great Ormond Street Hospital, copyright
holders to the JM Barrie classic, decided to commission a sequel
last year. Geraldine, who was picked from hundreds of candidates
around the world, said she was "delighted beyond words".
|
|
"It
is an astonishing, daunting priviledge to be let loose in Neverland
armed with nothing but a pen," added the award-winning children's
author.
The working title of the new story is Captain Pan, an indication
of what happened to Peter Pan as he advanced in years.
The children's hospital said that the book must feature the original
characters, including Peter, Wendy, Tinkerbell and Captain Hook.

|
Geraldine
was selected by a judging panel which included the original author's
great-great-nephew David Barrie who said that choosing a winner was
a "tough challenge ... We were presented with lots of wonderfully
imaginative entries".
Geraldine McCaughrean has won the Whitbread Children's Book of the
year three times for reinterpreting classics such as Noah's ark, Moby
Dick and the Canterbury Tales for younger readers. |
Geraldine's
Author profile appears in our AuthorZone
pages. She was one of the first authors to appear in the magazine.
She also appeared in Issue 6 (Autumn 2004) of our new tBkmag - letting
us peek into her photo album at significant moments in her life. The
launch of this sequel will surely provide a "significant other".
