The Gruffalo's Child - Children's Book of the Year 16th March 2005

The winners have been announced for the 2005 British Book Awards, known in the trade as 'The Nibbies' . . .

At this years event Lauren Child, Anthony Horowitz and G P Taylor were some of the fantastic authors who battled it out for the sought after title of Children's Book of the Year last night.
But it was The Gruffalo's Child by Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler that picked up the coveted award.

Also in the evening’s line-up was the announcement of the winner of the highly influential Richard & Judy Best Read of the Year. In the ten weeks preceding the awards each of the ten short-listed books had been discussed in the Book Club feature of the Channel 4 show: and the book specialist research agency BML has found that, as a result, 1.8 million people have been influenced in their reading habits, with 1.4 million saying they are reading books which they would not have done otherwise.

The winners!

The 16th Annual British Book Awards took place on the 20th April at the Grosvenor House hotel, Park Lane, and will be broadcast by Channel 4 on Friday, the 22nd April between
5-6pm to what is expected to be an audience of around two million – the biggest ever to watch a book programme.
