The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize Winner. 3rd October 2005.

The winner of The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize has been announced. Kate Thompson has won the award and £1,500 prize money. The award was set up in 1967 and is the only children's book award made to writers by their fellow authors and sticking with tradition this year's award was judged by Jan Mark, Meg Rosoff and Chris Riddell.

The Guardian Children's Fiction Prize is a coveted prize for any author and those included on the Shortlist will each be eager to see if they have won. Previous winner and Children's Laureate Jacqueline Wilson spoke fondly of the award at this year's Hay Festival "Winning the Guardian prize is a wonderful reward for any writer. It is such a distinguished award . . . All authors want to know what other authors think of their books and they also like to know what children like, too."
