Blackman wins Eleanor Farjeon Award
- 29th September
2005 |
Malorie Blackman has been awarded the Eleanor Farjeon Award by the
Children's Book Circle (CBC).
The award is set to recognise the contribution made by an individual
to the children's book world and previous award winners include Jacqueline
Wilson and Philip Pullman. |

In reference to
Blackman the CBC highlighted that "Malorie never set out to be
a black writer writing books for black children - she sees herself
as a writer writing for children."
"However with her Noughts & Crosses trilogy, she explores
in dramatic and effective fashion a racist society in reverse."
Sales of the trilogy have already topped 300,000 and earlier in the
year sales for all Malorie's titles have exceeded one million books
and doing so she has become the first black British children's writer
to achieve such sales.
Malorie continues to spend much of her time visiting schools, libraries
and festivals discussing her work and she is involved in the diversity
in Publishing movement.
